Everything you need to know to ensure your electrical inspection runs smoothly and efficiently
All rooms, lofts, basements, and electrical cupboards must be accessible. Remove any stored items blocking access to distribution boards.
Find any previous electrical certificates, installation records, or building control completion certificates if available.
Inform all tenants about the inspection date. Testing may cause temporary power interruptions to specific circuits.
Save work on computers and charge devices as power may be temporarily interrupted during testing.
The engineer will inspect all visible electrical installations, distribution boards, and wiring without power interruption.
Power to individual circuits will be temporarily turned off for testing. Each circuit typically takes 15-30 minutes.
The engineer will complete detailed test sheets and prepare your EICR certificate on-site.
Don't worry - most issues are easily resolved. Your engineer will explain any findings and provide clear recommendations for remedial work if required.

Visual inspection, dead testing, live testing, and full EICR certificate
All rooms, electrical cupboards, loft spaces, and external areas
Brief interruptions per circuit (15-30 minutes each)
RCD devices should be tested every 6 months as their mechanisms can seize over time, potentially delaying disconnection in life-threatening electrical fault situations.
