Preparing for Your Fire Alarm Testing

Essential preparation steps to ensure your fire alarm testing is completed efficiently and safely

    Before Your Fire Alarm Visit

    Notify All Occupants & Neighbors

Inform tenants, staff, and nearby properties about testing. Fire alarms will sound repeatedly during the inspection.

    Contact Monitoring Company

If your system is monitored, notify your alarm receiving center to prevent false alarm calls to emergency services.

    Ensure Access to All Areas

All fire alarm devices, control panels, and detection zones must be accessible. Remove any obstructions.

    Locate Previous Certificates

Find previous fire alarm test certificates, maintenance records, and system installation documentation.

    During Fire Alarm Testing

    Control Panel Inspection

The engineer will test the main fire alarm panel, check fault logs, and verify all zone indicators are functioning.

    Detector Testing

Each smoke, heat, and beam detector will be individually tested using appropriate test equipment.

    Call Point & Sounder Testing

Manual call points will be activated and all alarm sounders tested to ensure adequate coverage.

    Battery Backup Testing

Standby battery performance will be tested to ensure 24-hour operation in case of mains power failure.

    Common Fire Alarm Issues

    What We Often Find:

    • • Dirty or contaminated smoke detectors requiring cleaning
    • • Faulty batteries in the control panel
    • • Missing or incorrect zone plan
    • • Call points with missing covers, broken glass or missing keys
